A PLACE TO BEGIN

Find the journey that fits.

Nepal’s rivers offer another way to travel through the landscape, with time on the water and, on longer journeys, nights beside it. This collection ranges from shorter Trishuli and Seti itineraries to longer river journeys such as the Sun Koshi, Karnali and Tamur.

Start with the time you have and your previous experience, then discuss the route and conditions for your dates. The number of days in a holiday plan can include reaching the river and returning from the take-out point.

Match the river to your available time

Trishuli, Seti and Kali Gandaki are useful starting points when comparing shorter itineraries. Sun Koshi, Tamur and other longer routes call for a larger part of your holiday. Read the full programme to understand which days are on the river and which involve road travel or other transfers.

Discuss experience and river conditions

Tell the team about previous rafting and your comfort in the water. River conditions vary, so a route name or an old rapid description cannot determine suitability on its own. Ask the operator to explain the proposed section, expected activity and participation requirements for your dates.

Look beyond the time afloat

Ask how the trip reaches the put-in and leaves the take-out, where you will sleep and what happens to luggage during the journey. Confirm the guiding, rafting equipment, meals and camping or other accommodation included in the quote, along with arrangements if the programme changes.

BEFORE YOU GO

Your questions, answered.

Does the trip duration mean the same number of days rafting?

Not always. Some itineraries include travel to the starting point, an approach or the return journey. Read the day-by-day plan and ask for the number of river days in your proposal.

Which rafting trip should a first-time participant choose?

Share your experience, comfort in the water and preferred dates with the team. The operator needs to assess the proposed river section and conditions rather than relying only on a general difficulty label.

Is camping included on every rafting trip?

Accommodation varies with the itinerary. Ask whether your proposed trip uses riverside camping or another arrangement, and confirm which camping equipment, meals and facilities are included.
