A LITTLE CLARITY FOR THE JOURNEY

Responsible travel

Simple ways to respect mountain communities, local staff and the places you visit.

Travel with respect

A trek passes through people’s homes, working landscapes and places of worship. Ask before photographing people, follow local guidance at temples and monasteries, and dress and behave considerately.

Choose local services where practical and treat guides, porters and lodge staff with respect. Ask about luggage limits, suitable equipment and staff welfare arrangements before the trip.

Reduce your impact

Nepal Tourism Board encourages visitors to use established routes, support local livelihoods and avoid leaving waste in sensitive areas. Small choices matter throughout the journey.

  • Stay on designated trails and use established campsites and resting places.
  • Carry out your rubbish when safe disposal is unavailable, including small packaging and used batteries.
  • Use refill options and appropriate water treatment where practical, and conserve water and energy.
  • Avoid unnecessary firewood use and follow local rules around fires, toilets and water sources.
  • Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not feed animals, collect plants or remove cultural objects.

Plan for the actual route

Check current guide, permit and protected-area requirements for your itinerary. Requirements can differ by region and can change. Allow time for acclimatisation and disruption, and raise a safety concern with your guide promptly.

An ambitious itinerary should not put pressure on staff, local resources or your own preparation. Ask for a pace and group arrangement that suit the journey.

Raise a concern

Tell your trip contact or email himalpanta@gmail.com if you are concerned about staff treatment, environmental damage or conduct on a trip. Share the circumstances so the team can review the issue.

These are practical travel principles. We do not claim that every trip is carbon neutral, certified sustainable or without environmental impact.
