Five things to consider before the Manaslu Circuit

Five things to consider before the Manaslu Circuit

The Manaslu Circuit links river valleys, mountain villages and the high crossing of Larke Pass. The scenery is a strong reason to go, but choosing an itinerary deserves careful thought.

1. Understand the route

The circuit travels around the Manaslu region rather than simply walking to a base camp and returning. Side trips, including Tsum Valley or Manaslu Base Camp, are separate itinerary choices and should not be assumed to be included.

2. Discuss the walking demands

Daily walking, elevation changes and high mountain terrain are central to the journey. Share your experience and available time with the team so you can discuss the demands of the proposed route.

3. Confirm permits and guiding arrangements

Ask the team to confirm the current entry, permit and guiding requirements for your nationality and travel dates. Older articles should not be used as the final authority for access rules.

4. Expect the itinerary to change

Weather, trail conditions and landslides can affect mountain travel. Local guidance helps with planning and decisions along the route, but does not remove the risks of the journey or guarantee completion.

5. Set out the practical details

Confirm accommodation, transport, included services and contingency arrangements before departure. The written quotation should make clear what is included and how changes or cancellations will be handled.
